Hello readers,

This blog is about my response on online discussion on Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Academy Award for her documentary, A Girl in the River.

Click here to show review artical of this documentary. On which over online discussion was based.

A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness is a 2015 documentary film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy about honor killings in Pakistan. The documentary follows the story of a nineteen-year-old girl, who survives an honor killing attempt by her father and uncle. The protagonist has a solid stance on not forgiving her attackers; however, the public pressures her into forgiving. By doing that, the attackers are freed and can return home.
This short film is about truly heroic Pakistani women, who have suffered appalling cruelty and oppression but who have refused to be silenced. In telling their stories to the world, they have fought back and exposed injustice. These are genuine stories of triumph over adversity.

This documentary is about one nineteen years girl who become the victim of an honour killing. An honour killing is the homicide of a member of a family or social group by other members, due to the belief the victim has brought dishonour upon the family or community. The death of the victim is viewed as a way to restore the reputation and honour of the family.
Women in Pakistan face all kinds of gross violence and abuse at the hands of the male perpetuators family members and state agents.  Multiple form of violence includes rape; domestic abuse as spousal murder, mutilation, burning and disfiguring faces by acid, beatings; ritual honour killings and custodial abuse and torture. Every year in Pakistan hundreds of women, of all ages and in all parts of the country, are reported killed in the name of honour. This documentary, ‘A girl in the river’ is talks about how girl of Pakistan became victim of Honor Killing.

This single documentary has generated abroad to prompt Nawaz Sharif’s avowal to put an end to honour killings at home and embolden Imran Khan to publicly decry the practice. So this short film is became bless for Pakistani girl and it made change in Pakistani rules. So this documentary is became most important for Pakistani govermet for made changes in their rules.
